The installation of b+ in collaboration with Studio Muoto takes the form of a grid drawn on the floor, but also the walls – like a horizontal shelf, where each square corresponds to a component of the exhibition infrastructure. Some boxes are used, others are not. Those that are intended to accommodate devices are numbered to facilitate inventory. The grid lines and numbers are made of black adhesive tape. The devices displayed in the boxes are selected from existing storage, according to their availability, interest and suitability for display. As the inventory progresses, the boxes are emptied and filled. By bringing its exhibition infrastructure to the surface, the Cité de l’architecture reveals its hidden side and its invisible technical universe.

Not to exhibit architectural drawings or models but the infrastructure of the exhibition, is to consider architecture as an act that precedes its own prefiguration. It is also to consider the Institution as a place where architecture is made, where the act of exhibiting is already a way of thinking about architecture. Read more

For its reopening to the public, the Cité de l’architecture is updating its infrastructure. It is making an inventory of its exhibition arsenal, which remained buried in its basements during the long months of lockdown. Frames, brackets, picture rails, screens and protective boxes are being brought out of the shadows and displayed as a living archive. Each of the exposed components has been used in past exhibitions and has an emotional value. This installation is therefore more than an inventory. It is also the exhibition of a living memory which, like a spring cleaning, allows the institution to see itself again, as it is, and to reactivate itself for a new beginning. Read less
