The typological principle of the Four-Directional Module Diagonal (0126 VRMD (VierRichtungsModulDiagonal)) is the basis for this contribution to the „ungewöhnlich wohnen“ building study, situated in a residential neighborhood in Bremen. The scheme of two modules diagonally stacked on each other to form one user unit combining working and living was here proved to also work at a bigger scale. Two rows of modules are arranged one above the other to form a four-story building with 16 units each around 185 square meters big. An exterior walkway system of platforms, stairs, and footbridges is located at the side facing away from the road. The externalization of the circulation optimizes the total usable floor space on the inside, provides an addressing for the upper units, and serves as a communal space at the same time, such as already tested at 0113 Brunnenstrasse 9 or 0019 Kölner Brett . The walkway is placed five meter away from the facade to ensure sufficient lighting of the units and to provide a safe escape route in case of fire. The units on the first floor are slightly smaller because a part of their tube is designated as a private loggia. The upper units have access to a roof terrace instead.
