0154.1 Outdoor Kitchen ×

At the foot of one of the towers of 0154 San Gimignano Lichtenberg there were the remains of a loading ramps for lorries, reminding of the use by the VEB Elektrokohle Lichtenberg, a state factory for graphite production which used to be on the site. The temporary guard rail, which was repeatedly knocked over by the wind, was to be permanently closed. Combining this necessary intervention with the installation of an outdoor kitchen seemed a synergetic way of initiating a joint use on the extensive site, indicating the social nucleus the site could possibly become. The existing concrete structure of the trough was supplemented by a self-built worktop out of concrete. In the course of a weekend, reinforcement cages were bent and formwork boards sawn, so that on the following Monday they could be poured. Recesses for a sink, a built-in grill, and a garbage chute are provided with simple and robust fixtures from the gastronomy. A cable outlet allows kitchen appliances to be connected to the multiple socket on the underside. The leftover concrete and reinforcement bars were used to make an ad hoc table and chairs on site, which resulted in the project 0210 Brutiful San Gimignano Lichtenberg 04092018 whose approach was carried on on the occasion of the Biennale Interieur in Kortrijk (0211 Brutiful).
